In June 1921 my late eldest aunt Mary Knight sailed to her new life in USA on the Kaiser-i-Hind.This ship sailed between UK and India and called several times at Sydney until it was taken over by Cunard and put on the London to New York run in June 1921.
Now 90+ years later I have some 50+cousins of some degree in the States and have met none of them. I am in touch with one Mark whose grandfather is my first cousin and hope to make contact with more of them by post.
This is the vessel which carried the start of my american family to the US.

inGENEROSITY IN THE HUMAN HEART IS SELDOM MORE APPARENT THAN AT THIS SEASON. WHILE THAT IS TRUE IT DOES NOT REPLACE THE ONGOING NEED OF THOSE INCREASING NUMBERS OF “THE EXCLUDED”. A NATION’S GOVERNMENT HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR INCLUSION. IN AUSTRALIA, ALL THE PEOPLE MUST FILL THE TANK OUT OF WHICH THE POOR MAY TAP TO LIGHTEN THEIR BURDEN .
IN EUREKASTREET.COM TODAY JOHN FALZON, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY WRITES STRONGLY ON HEARING THE UNHEARD. THIS COINCIDES WITH TODAY’S GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT OF A DWINDLING SURPLUS AND AT A TIME WHEN THE ‘BURDEN’ IS TO BE MADE HEAVIER ON THOSE LEAST DESERVING OF FURTHER AUSTERITY.

inIt is regrettable that the national press won’t publish in full the latest article today 19th dec. by Fr frank Brennan on eurekastreet.com.
It is entitled “Border Protection Word Games” and is highly illustrative of the shallow arguments placed before the Australian people on this difficult problem.
The information in the article is there for all to read and who want to add to their understanding.

inAnother horrific tragedy in the USA unfolded at first light today.
In a very ordinary town lives came to an unexpected end at the hands of someone armed with weapons which belong, if they do, only on a battlefield.
Worse was the news that a number of small children suffered death beside their teachers.
The gentle epitaph came to mind…..
“If I am so quickly done for
What on earth was I begun for.”
People now will second guess a loving God, asking why he allows such terrible things. We forget too easily that as human beings we have free will. We can at our individual choice do good or do evil and face the consequences. In Newtown today the choice was someone’s to do evil and to suffer death and judgement.
Our part in this disaster is to pray for those who are grief stricken and for the whole community that they may draw close in love for one another.
For the US government it is yet another wakeup call for action to prevent this repeated agony.
